DRAGON - NEST DAMME

We were commissioned by curator Han Decorte to reconstruct a gilt leather pattern for the exhibition 'KIJK' at NEST Stadslab Damme (B). This 18th century piece is part of the heritage collection of the Old Sint-Janshospitaal, caring community dating back to the 13th century and active untill 2014.

Left, the original piece of gilt leather. On the right, the digital recontruction with a matching repeat pattern.

Atelier Billiet reconstructed the missing parts of the repeat and reproduced the design as a wallpaper to adorn the ceiling of the 'Wunderkamer' in the center of the exhibition.

The digital pictures arrived in 28 pieces with not a single one photograhed straight.

The missing parts of the pattern. These we had to redraw ourselves, with the same leather texture.

Searching the right blue...found it after 126 prints....

Reconstruction of the repeat design

For the installation and paintworks we contacted Perfex Behangwerken. They did a great job! We all know that wallpapering a ceiling is not at all easy...
